EU gas companies are seeking transit through Ukraine as time for a deal runs out. Slovakia’s SPP and its gas operator Eustream AS, as well as Hungary’s MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Plc and MVM Zrt, are among the companies that have signed a declaration in support of continuing transit. Trade associations and large industrial customers from Hungary, Austria, Italy and Slovakia are also among the signatories, according to a statement from SPP.

The Slovak Gas Industry (SPP) currently records a 70% reduction in gas supplies from Russia. Slovakia's main gas buyer, SPP, has signed a short-term pilot contract to purchase natural gas from Azerbaijan and is considering a long-term deal in preparation for a potential halt to Russian supplies via Ukraine. Slovakia's Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP) is in talks with Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR on gas purchases.
