The Finnish state railway company VR Group has written off all Allegro trains running between St. Petersburg and Helsinki. The company wrote off all rolling stock and spare parts for Allegro for a total of 45.4 million euros. VR Group has also started negotiations on the sale of subsidiaries related to freight transportation in the eastern direction. Russian Railways said Finland's state-owned railway company VR had acted unlawfully in seizing four trains co-owned through a joint venture. "The transfer of trains ... was not agreed," Russian Railways said in a statement.

Offiicially VR Transpoint promised to suspend the traffic of freight wagons from Russia as of 12 noon on Sunday 27 March 2022 but then on March 30, according to the clarification received from the UK authorities, the sanctions "were in question did not apply to VR Group's contracts. VR Transpoint's eastern freight service will restart on Wednesday, March 30". On 6 April, the Board of Directors of VR Group made a decision to stop freight traffic between Russia and Finland and, on this basis, the company has prepared a plan to shut down traffic, in consultation with customers and taking into account the security of supply. The termination of contracts under the plan has been initiated and the traffic will cease completely by the end of the 2022 at the latest.
