EDF planned to eliminate its dependence on Russia by launching a plant for the conversion of processed uranium in the UK, which was to be built by Westinghouse. However, this plant was never put into operation, which thwarted EDF’s entire project to switch to European processing. Due to the lack of alternative capacity, the company is once again forced to send processed uranium to Russia. Thus, EDF’s plan to break with the Russian nuclear supply chain has effectively failed.
