Kazakhstan nuclear power plants was established in 2014 in accordance with the plan of priority measures for the construction of nuclear power plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan (approved by the order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 04.05.2014 No. 60-r) to ensure the development of pre-project (feasibility study) and design (design and estimate) documentation construction of nuclear power plants, as well as organization of work on the construction of nuclear power plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency, with the participation of international experts, has completed work on determining the leader of the consortium for the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant. The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom has been selected to lead the international consortium for the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant.
