Global carmakers are feeling the pinch as logistics and supply chain disruptions to the Russian market have become a reality. Kia the latest automaker to mull exiting Russia. Revenue in 2022 from Russian operations has significantly dropped vs 2021. Significantly decreased revenue in 2023 vs 2022 (more than 5.8x! times). The Ministry of Industry and Trade has permitted parallel import of Kia and Hyundai spare parts. Kia may be the first global car company to return to Russia. The Korean concern has included Russia in its updated sales plan. Recently, there have been rumors suggesting that Kia, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, plans to re-enter the Russian market. However, industry sources and local media reports clarified that these rumors are unfounded. Kia has strongly denied any plans to return, stating that such claims are “not true.” The Hyundai Motor Group further explained that the sales figures announced at the ‘2025 CEO Investor Day’ pertain to the entire Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), not specifically Russia. The CIS includes countries like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which are part of Kia’s broader sales strategy. Revenue significantly (by more than -50%) decreased in 2024 vs 2023. On June 17, 2025 representatives of the South Korean concern Kia held talks with Russian car dealers, revealing their intention to restore their official presence in the domestic market. According to the announced plans, the Korean manufacturer expects to launch deliveries in 2026 and increase annual sales to 100 thousand vehicles over a three-year period.
