In January, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Asian Games under a neutral flag. In the Russian Federation, the requirement for athletes to perform at competitions without national symbols was called "strange". July 2023 - Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to participate in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou only under a neutral flag. 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will be admitted to the competition, but they will not be able to apply for medals. Athletes were allowed to participate in the games to give them the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
